New Contact - Notifications Not Sending

Hello Community!
Looking for a wee bit of direction and aid. I have inherited a NagiosXI 5.3.4 install running on RHEL 6.4 (and yes we plan to update all of this in the near future). Recently I went to make a new contact for some new HTTP service checks and all seemed well until I brought the service down and saw no notifications come through for these new checks.
All other checks seems to be sending fine but for the the life of me I cannot figure out why these are not working. We seem to have a "generic-contact" template and a "xi_contact_generic" template and I have tired to use both with no luck though another admin said they had the same issues when using the XI template but got things working when using the generic template. However that doesn't seem to be working for me.
I do see the following in the eventman.log
But I'm not sure if this message is relevant or not.
I can post more information or look at other logs but as I'm a bit fresh to XI, I'm slightly swimming in uncharted waters on this one.
