Hi, basically I want to know how to set up distributed monitoring and then also is the "parent" server capable of monitoring its own hosts aswell as recieving info from the "child" servers if so, how?

You can achieve distributed monitoring with Nagios DNX http://dnx.sourceforge.net/ you can find documentation on their site as to how it works.
