Monitoring Websites

Hi there,
I am new to Nagios, and I am wondering if it is capable of monitoring domains by ping and http. We have a bunch of websites on a server setup as different virtual hosts and we would like to monitor whether or not the website is in fact operating.
Thanks!

Yes you can, it's one of the more common things I believe Nagios is used for.

Great. Would you happen to know where I can find documentation pertaining to this?

Yeah, a good place to start would be the Core manual for publicly available services:
http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/ ... vices.html
If a commercial solution happens to be an option for you, Nagios XI has a website wizard that sets up Ping, http, web page content, and DNS checks for your website. These can all be set up on Core as well but it takes a little more work while you learn to manage the object config files.
