Nagios Wizards no longer creating hosts

Hi guys,

Hopefully someone has got an answer or fix to my problem.

Back when I first configured NagiosXI, I tested the "Run the Monitoring Wizard" which worked fine adding a few switches. Since then I've deployed new hosts manually.
I've now come back to using the wizard, which appears to run through the standard screens, config process, etc. but then the host doesn't appear in Nagios or the Config list either. Unfortunately theres nothing in the config snapshot logs, config manager logs or even the cfg files, that gives an indication to whats causing this.

Please can someone help?

Many thanks,
CP.

Can you list the steps and provide example names to reproduce this.
Nagios treats 'A' and 'a' the same way 'a' and 'b' are treated, it's case sensitive... but further then that it ignores case completely. This could be your problem, some other projects are not case sensitive name would in some cases map 'A' to 'a'.

A host 'a' should never effect a host 'b'.

I am having the same issue. I recently set up nagiosxi and am still in the configuration stages. I successfully added a bunch of hosts using the wizard. I since deleted all but one and am trying to add a few switches. I run through the wizard and everything looks ok. When the wizard finishes I go to the Host Detail and do not see my new hosts. The only host I see is localhost and the one host from my original setup. I finally got notifications working and now I am running into this problem. If I SSH to the nagios machine and go to /usr/local/nagios/etc/hosts there is no config file created for the new hosts. I just see config files f or localhost and the 1 server I previously added.

Current latesed is 1.2, not the 1.1H listed on our website. What is the version reported on the lower title/progress bar?

This could be a bug in the new release.

Please try again to provide specific instructions. I was hoping for something more descriptive that provided examples, like "bunch of hosts" or "my new hosts". I find it helps if I lead by example, I'm not attempting to poke fun at your style of English.

Hi thanks for your reply.

I'm currently using Nagios XI 2009R1.1H

Just to give you a run down of the process I'm taking (its the same for all wizards not just Windows Desktop):

Click Configure
Click "Run the monitoring wizard"
Select the Windows Desktop radio button & Then next
Enter IP address of Windows Desktop & then click next
Confirm hostname, Desktop Metrics, etc. (left untouched) & click next
Confirm monitoring settings (left untouched) & click next
Confirm notification settings (select only contact group) & click next
Select Apply
Watch the monitoring wizard do its thing, "Configuration Applied Successefully"

However despite checking "View status details for <host>", the config manager host section or the /usr/local/nagios/etc/hosts/ directory, no reference of the new host is there.

Cheers for any help you can give.

I am going through the exact same process as cczcp1 and having the exact same results. I am also running the same version of nagios.

There is a delay, try waiting several minutes(2 to 3) prior to checking the status page.

I waited and hour before commenting on this last week. It's been 3 days since I last added new hosts through the Wizard and they still haven't been created.

I believe that we still haven't ruled out a naming conflict issue. Could you try with a vary new hostname?

I'd like to get a feeling what what values you are using for "<host>". Could you try creating a host called "mmestnik" no spaces or dashes, ect , ect... Just those 8 lower case letters, in any order you prefer.

I created a new host (generic network device) through the monitoring wizard. I used mmestnik as the host name and clicked Next through all the default settings. I waited 10 minutes. The host was never created in the webui and a cfg file was never created in /usr/local/nagios/etc/hosts.

I tried creating a new host through multiple wizards (generic network device, switch, windows server, snmp). Something must have changed in my configuration because I was able to create hosts a few weeks ago when I first set this up. When running the trial is there a limited number of hosts you can create?
