Nagios XI Email Notifications need Configuring

After setting up Nagios XI , both server and agent (on Linux RHEL 5), everything seems to work fine except email notifications .Notifications and alerts for critical and warning events are NOT being sent .
For test purposes we have 1 monitoring server and 1 agent .I have tested a scenario to trigger alerts but Nagios XI wasnt behaving the way i expected it to. After some tweaking the contacts names and contact_group section of the service file /usr/local/nagios/etc/services/hostname.cfg
i can now recieve email notifications of critical event but only on the service where i made these services , ie service cheking number of users.

My question is how do i make these configuration changes on contacts globally rather than on a per service basis..currently if i need to recieve email notifications for all services defined on the agent then i have to change the contacts and contact_group settings manually in the see /usr/local/nagios/etc/services/hostname.cfg for all services , this becomes tedios if you have 30 or more services (is there a better way of doing this) ie where this parameters are changed once and then applied globally suc that alerts for all services are sent to the contacts.

To make things worse when these event notification contacts are change via the web interface , these are not saved manually in the /usr/local/nagios/etc/services/hostname.cfg file....can anyone help please

I think one of your problems is the nagiosadmin template issue, a known bug in 1.1H. Check the forum posts for instructions on changeing to use the XI_ template.

Secondly, you can't have contact groups be a member of a contact group. but you can add a contact group every where a contact group is... one item at a time.

To get what you want use a lot of contact groups.
