Better Search and Filtering from Host and Service Detail

Hi There:

I support a large-ish conglomeration of hosts and services spread across the hither and yon, and really need a better way of filtering and searching for items in the Host and Service Details views.

For example: if I select all unknowns from a Service Status Summary dashlet, then search for a string within that view, the view switches back to showing ALL services that match that string, not just the UNKNOWNs.

Given that the searches I want to use can be crafted using custom URLs, and the filtering logic is obviously already there in the PHP, it seems like it would be pretty simple to add the code to enhance the filtering and search capabilities directly to the Detail pages themselves as a series of sticky checkboxes and pulldowns, as it done in other sections of the UI (like the "Filter By" widget on the Scheduled Downtime page. I mean, easy win...

Honestly, the poor filtering and searching capability in Nagios is one of the most irritating functional misses, and a significant feature block to wider adoption within large environments that have needs for that capability. I can say from personal experience that I have worked in organizations where the choice between Nagios and other windy monitoring solutions came down against Nagios because of such seemingly basic feature misses like this.

Just sayin'...

I completely agree.

I put in a feature request for this, and it should be available in the next feature release 5.6.0
