OK, so i really like Nagios XI it is a great project, and we'd love to purchase the license to monitor 50 linux servers.....
We run Ubuntu here.... and getting Nagios to play nice with ubuntu can be done but is time consuming.... I'd like to have some documentation on how to get my nagios box to see and talk nice like to my ubuntu servers..... using snmp or nrpe either or i don't care at this point i just want this to finally work....... is there documentation out there that will walk me through this process of getting each client server to be monitored..... I am not afraid to edit files if needed either.... just show me the way.

Have you attempted following the instructions for installing the Linux agent?
The agent is built from source, so what distribution or architecture you are running should be transparent. This agent should also work on Sun/AIX and other Nixes.
Could you be more descriptive about what part of the deployment process you are having problems with? To be honest it has not been easy for me to make use of CentOS/RedHat or Fedora, I too have become complacent with the ease at witch Debian can be administrated.

I have not been able to get the nagios client agent to install properly yet....... but if this is the best option for success then i will continue to try...

If it doesn't just work then we would like to take a look, at the vary least to be able to tell others that we are working on that particular error... Though just thinking about that it sounds contradictory, in practice I'm sure things would work out better.

I suspect this will become a common request, and as an Ubuntu user myself I'm going to attempt building a .DEB package to do this for you. I've jumped in a little so far today, and it looks pretty doable. I'll let you know when I have something you can use!

after a few days of trial and error..... I now am monitoring several machines....... the nrpe agent had to be hand installed and several other packages to get it to work but it is up and running......
