Nagios core with php 7

Does Nagios core 4.x support php 7 ?

Yes, it works with php7. Our policy here is that we support what packages are chosen by the vendor (e.g Redhat/CentOS/Ubuntu) for that distribution.
I would recommend using the current version Ubuntu as it is 'shipped' with php7 .
