Email Notifications not working correctly on NagiosXI

Hello,
We have configured NagiosXI to send emails to a specific contact groups. When we experience events relating to the hosts we have configured this for, we do see on the NagiosXI web UI that notifications reported they were sent, however, the users never get some of these emails.
At certain instances, we get a few emails, sometimes just one, but nagios reports that it does send the emails. Manual test emails from Nagios works perfectly.
It also does happen that a particular contact who is not part of the contact group (Nagios Admin to be precise) gets notified perfectly when all these events occur. And all the users have the exact same contact setting as the Nagios Admin contact.
We have checked every possible setting but can't seem to find out why nagios reports that it has notified the contacts in the contact group, but we don't get the emails.
