I am looking for documentation on what to install on monitored linux VMs.
For example, I need to NOT install the web interface on monitored machine.
Could you kindly point me to the right doc?

Here's the official documentation on monitoring Linux machines with Nagios Core:
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... linux.html
You don't actually install Nagios Core on each machine you want to monitor. You typically locate the Nagios Core service centrally, then have agents of some sort responsible for interacting with each thing you want to monitor.

Thanks
@mcapra!
In regards to monitoring agent, I would recommend using NCPA ( Nagios Cross Platform Agent ).
NCPA Installation Instructions
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks to both.
I'll start today to install nagios core, than will try installing only ncpa (and / or npre) on remote monitored host.
I'll open a new thread if I've more specific question.
