Did you install XI with this Linux Agent Installer as described in the Wizard you ran?

This would be required to make sure you have all the commands and the plugins.

Is port 5666 open on the remote servers firewall? Is the NRPE service running?

Does a performance data graph show up for that service in the Home -> Service Status screen? The capacity planning wizard can only work with services that have existing performance data.
