SNMP Trap Integration Where to Start

Postby matthewfarnell91 » Wed May 22, 2019 3:40 am

hi, i'm very, very new to Nagios and i have just set up my basic host monitoring using host files.
I'm now on to monitoring the actual nitty gritty of the servers. I havenever used SNMP traps before and they look the bees knees.
So my question is where would i start to configure my nagios (ubuntu) server to receive SNMP?
Any help much appreciated

Which version of Ubuntu specifically? 32 or 64 bit?

Once I get that info I can point you in the right direction, I need to see if that script will from the guide will work against yours first since that will save us a lot of time.

I found this site that has instructions for integrating SNMP Traps into Nagios Core.
https://askaralikhan.blogspot.com/2010/12/receiving-snmp-traps-in-nagios.html

The instructions are for a Centos system but it should use the same config settings except for installing the Net-SNMP and the snmptt packages, you would use apt to install them.

Take a look at it and if you have any questions, post them here.
