Resizing the VM Disk Size - Thin Provisioning

Hi All,

We are about to undertake the task of increasing the size of our VM Box for Nagios XI. Currently our VM has been allocated 10gb, however the disk provisioning type is thin and the max size is 77gb.

Before i commence i need to know if we are still to follow the instructions in the document below, as we want 30gb for the VMBox and not the full 77gb.

Thankyou for your help, however i now have a spinoff question....

We are currently in the planning phase of a upgrading our VM box Size aswells as upgrading from XI 2009 R1.2 to XI 2009 R1.4B plus NagVis 1.4.7 to 1.6rc4 and adding Nagios Mobile into the mix...


Basically i just want to make sure i have got the steps in the correct order....

1. Backup Nagios
2. Resize VM Disk
3. Resize Partition
This is where i am not a 100% sure
4. Restore Nagios
5. Upgrade Components
6. Install New Components.

I have downloaded the packs and install/upgrade documentation however any assistace will be greatly appriciated.

upgrading from XI 2009 R1.2 to XI 2009 R1.4B

There is a possibility this may be problematic, as dependencies could have changed and this is 14 month old, I would backup and make a VM snapshot before doing this so you can roll back if problems arise.

1. Backup Nagios
2. Resize VM Disk
3. Resize Partition
This is where i am not a 100% sure
4. Restore Nagios
5. Upgrade Components
6. Install New Components.

There shouldn't be a need for step 4 if all goes well, but I would add a step 1.5 which would be to move your backup off of the machine you are resizing...
Are you a current customer? If so I would strongly recommend upgrading to 2011R2.2. If this is the case, the only caveat is that you will need to use a custom upgrade script we have for going from that version. Let me know if you need it.

We are current customers however i have been told to look at the last stable release that has been out for at least 6months. From what i have read in the change logs and downloads available on the site, it looks to me like 2009 1.4B is the last stable released before XI 2011.

Is there an install script for 2009 1.4B or is it only for 2011?

They all have an upgrade script, however the problem is that the upgrade/install scripts need to pull packages from repositories (not run by Nagios) and these packages get changed on the repository side of things.

The only package that is for sure up to date in the current release, and that is tested at least twice a day against the repositories used by a CentOS and RHEL 5 & 6 systems.

If you do decide to move to the latest system 2011R2.2, you will need to replace the upgrade script with the one in the attached zip after extracting the installation tarball.
