Sending email Alert

Need help figuring out what I am doing wrong because nagios is not sending any email alerts. I set up my contacts and edited host and services to send notifications to that contact.
What kind of mail program are you using - sendmail, postfix, etc.? Can you send a test email from the command line? Can your contact receive test emails? Did your host/service go to a HARD non-ok state? Was the host/service in a scheduled downtime? Was it flapping? Was the problem acknowledged? Can you show us the following configs?
- the host/service that you would like to receive notification about
- the contact/contacgroup that has been assigned to this object
- the notification commands that you are using
- any templates that are used by the host, service or contact
Do you see any clues in the mail log?
