Is there a way to check to see if a hard drive/disk is failing using SNMP?

What type of hard drives are you monitoring? You can check the Nagios Exchange as there maybe a plugin available.

Nagios XI can also monitor SMART atrributes of your hard drive, please see the following page for more details:
