Hello Nagios Support,

We would like to have more information in regards to what are Nagios best practices for monitoring Domain Controllers, Active Directory, DHCP & DNS. What processes and services should we be monitoring on the mentioned environments in order to be following Nagios best practices for network monitoring and better assist the teams that manage those services.

Nagios Version: Nagios XI 5.6.5
Nagios Server OS: CentOS 7

Currently we are monitoring the following in our environment:

Domain Controllers
Hosts up/down status
Uptime
Memory usage
CPU Usage
Drive Disk Usage

Active Directory
Hosts up/down status
Uptime
Memory usage
CPU Usage
Drive Disk Usage

DNS
DNS Resolution
DNS IP Match

DHCP
Hosts up/down status
Uptime
Ping
Memory usage

Drive Disk Usage

Looking forward to hearing your advice, please let us know what additional services/process we could monitor with Nagios in the above environments to follow Nagios best monitoring practices.

HI ArleyMilanes,

We don't really have best practices for specific products. Given how large in scope these systems are, it's important for the teams that support them to specify what is important to monitor. Different things are important in different environments.

I can, however, give you this document, which is our general best practices guide for Nagios XI.
