NagiosXI Reboot by SIGTERM

Post by cskang »

I have removed a previously configured host, B56-1FC-FR, using Configure-->Core Config-->Host GUI page.
But the same host continued to appear on Home-->Host Detail web page.

So, I logged into VMCentOS as root.
I saw the B56-1FC-FR.cfg file in /usr/local/nagios/etc/hosts directory.
So, I renamed the file to B56-1FC-FR.cfg.removed and did "Apply Configuration".
Now, it does not appear on Home-->Host Detail any more.

But, VMCentOS is reboot after a little later. I went to Home-->Event web page, which is shwon here:
SIGTERM-event.png
What is the cause of SIGTERM?
Is there anyway that I can find out more information on the cause of SIGTERM?

Also, there have been multiple lines of:
" Time stamp -Auto-save of retention data completed successfully."
happened every hour prior to getting caught by SIGTERM.

Why is the reason for Auto-save of retention data?

Hello cskang, the SIGTERM message you are seeing in the event log is posted every time Nagios shuts down, or restarts. This is a normal message for the kill process command. Whenever you apply a configuration change Nagios restarts to effect the changes and this is also where the automatic save of files occurs. It is also not recommended that you change files manually under nagios/etc/services as any changes you make to these files will not be seen by Nagios.
