Refreshing SNMP devices

Post by kinnema »

Is anyone aware of a way to refresh a device (cisco switch for example) managed by SNMP without removing and re-adding the device totally? or manually editing every interface?

We have a large number of network devices that we manage and it's quite convenient to use the port descriptions, but occasionally these descriptions change as the environment changes. We'd like to be able to refresh the config for a device like this in some automated fashion without removing it and re-adding it with the network switch wizard (which would cause any dependancys or parent/child relations to be lost).

Thanks,
Tony

There isn't really any way to "refresh" the names in an automated fashion. It looks like you also have pointed out the problems in doing so, if you have dependencies that rely on services, then you cannot change their name without breaking the dependencies
