Changing the IP for the Nagios XI Server

Post by stevemorris »

Hello - we are having to re-IP our Nagios XI server and I'm just wondering if anyone can give any guidance on how to do that?

Will I have to visit each client and update the .INI or is there a quicker way to do this?

Is there any best practice I should follow?

Thank you!

Hi Steve,

The Nagios XI license allows for 3 activations (production, test, and backup) and you have used only one so far, so you should be able to change the IP address without issue.

If you eventually activate Nagios XI on three IP's and need to migrate one of them to a new IP, simply contact our sales department at [email protected]. They can assist with updating the IP address on your license account.

After making the change, go to Admin > System Config > System Settings, and make sure you have the correct IP in the "Program URL" and/or "External URL" fields. Also, you may need to add the new IP to the agent's settings (e.g. nrpe.cfg) on any of the remote machines, that you are monitoring.

Currently, there isn't a way to update the ini file on the agents from XI, so you'll need to update those hosts with the new IP address. I would recommend disabling notifications until you get everything working correctly out.

Let me know if you need clarification on anything.
