Hi Support,
We are evaluating the Nagios XI version 5.6.14 on RHEL7 before using it on Production. There will be large amount of network devices in the environment which need to be monitored over SNMP. We are having several issues/questions installing it on the PRE-PROD server for our client. We have few custom requirements from our client and would like to check with support if they can be fulfilled.
1. Can we have Nagios XI running under different user other than "nagios" user. This is because they already have that user in AD which hadoop team is already using.
2. Can we have Nagios XI to be installed on different location other than default.
3. The user under which Nagios XI is installed is not local user its in AD. So what needs to be done to get it working in such environment.
Request you to please guide us with this custom install.
Thanks,
Sandeep

Re: Need help with Nagios XI custom install
Hi Sandeep,
First of all, thank you for evaluating Nagios XI and welcome to the Nagios Support Forum. You mentioned that you are having several issues, did you make any changes so far to the installation. If so, let me know.
For ease of maintainability, I highly recommended the default setting/installation and using the default "nagios" user account. As far as custom files paths, this is not documented or a supported configuration, but from what I've researched some users have been to do this using symbolic links and modifying the file paths in /usr/local/nagiosxi/html/config.inc.php.
Can you provide a few more details in regards to your last question? When you install XI, it will automatically create the nagios user account. Is it not possible for the installer to create this account?

Re: Need help with Nagios XI custom install
Hi benjaminsmith,
Thanks for looking into this.
We are installing Nagios XI in client environment where "nagios" user already exist in AD and being used by some other team since many years or so and because of this we have been asked to use another user for installing nagios xi application. When we run the script it was failing because the user already exist. So we had to manually skip the user creation part. The major problem we have is to try installing the XI with different user.
Is there a way we can have this implemented. Or is it possible to have a customized build? We already have Enterprise license for production.
Thanks,
Sandeep

Re: Need help with Nagios XI custom install
Hi Sandeep,
I certainly understand that it would convenient to change the user account. In XI (and Core) the nagios account is critical to running the checks and all of the backend scripts and services, so it's going to be much easier to change the existing nagios account in AD (it take would significant code changes to implement this).
