Passing script variables to Nagios notifications?

Can we define in a service, specific custom variables pulled from a check through nrpe, so those variables can be passed to the notification commands for email/sms alerting?

I think you might be confusing terms, nrpe is not a passive check nsca and nrdp are.
Either way, you can add variables one they have been added to the configuration through the CCM.
