Passive checks - convert existing service

Hello,
I have another question on what I can and can't do.
My use case is,
I have a Windows machine that runs a service, this service performs several things, I'd like to report on.
on this windows machine there is an existing service.
I would like to modify this existing service to communicate with Nagios.
I'm reading passive checks now.
Q. Do I still need to install the NCPA agent for this ?
