Getting orange "Unknown" on one computer

Hey all, I was running nsclient with check_nt on my XP Pro SP3 workstations and one workstation had an orange "Unknown" showing. I wasn't concerned because I was getting everything moved over to NRPE but I'm getting the same thing under NRPE. Here's the error:

ERROR: Could not get data for 1 perhaps we don't collect data this far back?

Googling this error gives me tons of information on how to fix it under Server 2003. I tried doing the fix, lodctr /R, under XP but the fix is requesting a file name and I don't have any idea what that name would be. I removed NSclient and reinstalled it but that didn't help. I tried removing the parameters for 1 minute and the error moved up to 5, the next time frame. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this error under Windows XP Pro SP3?

Thanks,

Joe B

This kb article should help you resolve the problem if it's a counter issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300956

I think the above is client oriented, I vaguely remember the server 2k3 kb being less involved. Maybe you could also open up perfmon on the client machine and just ensure that it is the counters that have gone wack before you invest the time.

Ahhhhhh... I was just trying to check that computer remotely from an MMC console and I see that computer is messed up -- instead of getting "counter" labels I just get a bunch of numbers. Clicking on the numbers does nothing. I tried another machine and the counters popped right up. I think I'll hold off on trying to get this machine to talk to my Nagios server.

Thanks jsmurphy,

Joe B

Thanks jsmurphy, I had a bit of a time with Microsoft's instructions but I was able to figure it out anyway. Now that one computer is all green.

Thanks,
