Nagios XI hourly CPU spike

Hi,

I observed a dip occurring on an hourly basis which then a spike occurs by a 40% increase which stays for about an hour then goes down again. (See attachment below).
At first, I took a look for any hourly cron that we could have, in which we don't.
Also, there aren't any other jobs with less intervals that run together by the hour.

My assumption was that this could have to do with the Nagios application.
What other checks I can look for to understand what's causing this and possibly amend?

Hi Matthew,

The engine in Nagios does a good job of spreading out and managing check scheduling, so it's likely unrelated to that. If you are running a VM, it also could be related to CPU resource sharing.

It would be interesting to get a top command output during both the high and low periods of CPU usage to see which processes are driving this. This information is available in the system profile, please download a profile under both conditions, high and low. To send us your system profile:

Login to the Nagios XI GUI using a web browser.
Click the "Admin" > "System Profile" Menu
Click the "Download Profile" button
Save the profile.zip file and share in a private message or upload it to the post/ticket, and then reply to this post to bring it up in the queue.

Regards,
Benjamin
