SMS as an escalation?

Hello,

I'm just starting to explore using SMS in NagiosXI. I've made sure all of my checks are utilizing the phpMailer, I've done basic configuration on my own account for my cellphone (added number, confirmed text, enabled specific types of alerts). How can I set up SMS to be an escalation method, rather than being sent at the same time as the first email?

Also, is it possible to set up multiple emails on an account for different time periods (like work email during the day, and personal email during the evening)? Or would I have to set up different logins for this?

Hi Mark,

I would recommend setting up a separate account with only the SMS alerts configurated for this contact.Click on the name in the upper right side of the screen and select Notifications Preferences and you'll find the following options for the contact. Disable the email alerts and enable Mobile Text.

Then you can use the Escalation Wizard in Nagios XI to configure this contact as a level in the notification escalation.

This could certainly be accomplished using custom notification handlers to manage this. Otherwise, the easiest route would be to create separate contacts for the different address and time period requirements and the use of contact groups would help simplify the administration, by organizing these contacts into logical groupings=

Hope that helps answer your questions and let me know if you have more.
