Nagios XI Host and service History are empty/ Graph Question

I am having 2 issues with XI-
Issue 1-
Host and Service State History are empty for all hosts and services. Is there something I need to enable? I can see this data in the event log. I have tried adjusting the time search period on hosts and services I know went hard down. I am familiar with Nagios (not XI) and this would be a great feature for my team to see soft downs.
Issue 2-
Built in graphs do not show gaps in data to reflect failed polling. I used nagios graph in the past and when a host or service was down I would see a gap in the data. This doesn't seem to be the case for the built in graphs in NagiosXI. We have had outages but the bars across are consistent even when I zoom in. Just trying to understand if this is expected behavior.
Thanks!
John
