Reduction of emails

Good morning all,
I was looking for a previous topic or article on this but could you provide me with the article or guide me in the direction of having only a summary of a group be emailed rather than every individual node emailing the alert with the issue presented.
The goal is to go from 600 to 700 emails to around 20 a day.

Hi
@mrjsokol,
So host groups on their own in the Configuration Manager are simply a collection of other host objects and do not have their own notification options.
However, the BPI component in Nagios XI will allow you to create groups of objects, set health thresholds, and send notifications based on those thresholds.
Here's the documentation on the Business Process Intelligence Component. Take a look and let me know if that might work for you.

Hey Ben,
This is great, I looked through the documentation and didnt seem to answer my question about notification that are currently in place. If I incorporate all the host with its services into a bpi will that suppress any additional notifications I would get from individual nodes?
Additionally, is there a way to make this part of a dashboard?

Hi
@mrjsokol
It wouldn't suppress the notifications on current hosts and services, so those would need to be edited. When you run the BPI Wizard it sets up new host and service objects run notification checks against ( see page 9 of the BPI doc).
While there isn't a dedicated BPI dashlet, you could use the Custom URL Dashlet to insert the BPI page into a dashboard. To find the URL of a page, click the hamburger menu in the upper right and select Popout.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey Benjamin,
I have attached my latest profile this morning as well. I had noticed I wasnt getting my normal amount of emails yesterday and found. Discovered that my monitoring engine was not started. Tried to start and received that an error had occurred. I had rolled back my config to a previous state when my monitoring was working. Tried to start monitoring engine and received same error. Ran the repair database script and tried to start my monitoring engine and still in error state.

UPDATE:
Found issue as a result of a temp config file that was being created during the use of the BPI wizard. Found other odd files in which had the name of the client but address was pointed to 127.0.0.1. Deactivated the files that were 127.0.0.1 and removed the temp cfg file that was causing the issue with monitoring engine not to start. Also, odd find: There was an object created that had no name. Once I looked into the config I couldnt exit page without specifying name for object. These issues were directly related to using the BPI wizard. Prior to using this wizard, I was able to create a low priority object with host and services directly from the BPI reference from the homepage under the details category and did not affect the monitoring engine. I wasnt able to access other options as indicated earlier related to notifications so the BPI wizard was necessary to access those options as I did not see availability without.

Hey Bejamin,
I thought I had posed this question previously but seems like I never sent it. I need to know if we cant use the wizard because its causing issues with getting errors during the creation process and crashing the nagios monitoring service, how to fix this so we can create bpi objects with the wizard. Creating bpi objects through the link from the home page works but doesnt give the option to set notifications.
