Service Check Notifications Occurring

Post by jstormshak »

Greetings!
I have an odd case where I'm defining a CPU & Mem Service check that at the Service check definition has NO contact or contact groups defined there. The service check is managed by (1) single template and that template has NO contact or contact groups defined either. The template has the the "Notifications enabled" set to "off" and at the service check its sit to "skip" (at the Alert settings tab).

The problem is I expect that NO notifications would be sent. However, they notify and are sent. The only contacts are set at the Host level but host check_host_alive isn't being triggered for any alert whatsoever.

Is it this contact that is driving the notification perhaps since the service check & template doesn't have one set? In short, I just want to have two service checks (CPU and Memory) to execute checks to only obtain performance data and never notify whatsoever. What am I doing here that is causing this to still alert? I'm running 5.7.3 Nagios XI on RHEL 7.9.

Hi,
I tested the notification settings from my VM by turning "on" and "off" for one of the template in my Nagios XI system.
Once "off" is set, I noticed a "red" icon from the Service page that said "notification has been turned off".
Please check and see if you see the "red" icon displays next to the service that you want notification to be off.

To further investigate the issue, could you please send me profile.zip and the exact name of the host and services sending notications.

To send us your system profile.
Login to the Nagios XI GUI using a web browser.
Click the "Admin" > "System Profile" Menu
Click the "Download Profile" button
Save the profile.zip file and share in a private message or upload it to the post/ticket, and then reply to this post to bring it up in the queue.

Thanks & Regards
Vinh

Good morning.
One of our other admins mentioned to me that I should try entering an contact (email) to the service template and then set "Notifications Enabled" to "Off" (which that was already disabled as indicated previously). When I go to add a new service check managed by said template, in the console, it starts off being disabled which is the end-goal. Although, I placed a bogus email (I'll never plan on using it as a contact), that appears to have provided me the result. Apparently, not having one defined must inherit one perhaps the one defined at the host object? That was what I assumed was happening since its the only one configured. Anyhow, Thanks for your response and help. I can proceed to close/lock this inquiry. Thanks again!
