Hi Team,

We have received false alerts over the holidays as Nagios was not excluding the public holidays.
I have added this in the exclusion for time periods but it still did the check on those days.

Please let me know if anything is incorrect with the timeperiod set.

Timeperiod for the public holidays to exclude is as follows:

Time Definition Time Range
january 1 00:00-00:00
january 27 00:00-00:00
april 10 00:00-00:00
april 13 00:00-00:00
april 25 00:00-00:00
december 25 00:00-00:00
december 26 00:00-00:00
monday -28 december 00:00-00:00
june 8 00:00-00:00
january 1 00:00-24:00
january 27 00:00-24:00
april 10 00:00-24:00
april 13 00:00-24:00
april 25 00:00-24:00
december 25 00:00-24:00
december 26 00:00-24:00
monday -28 december 00:00-24:00

Hi Rebecca,

I don't see anything wrong with the time period syntax. How many false notifications did you receive on 1/1? Is the public holiday exclude list added to the notification period for the host or service or the check period?

Can you PM the profile and the exact name of the host or servicer and I verify the configs for you?

Thanks,
Benjamin

Hi Rebecca,

Yep, I'm seeing the exclusion on the time period definitions. One question I have is why are there multiple entries for the same date in the au-holidays time period . For example, January 1 00:00-00:00 and january 1 00:00-24:00?

Can you let me know the exact of the host or service that sent the false notice?

Thanks,
Benjamin

All time periods were before set to 00:00-00:00 but the alert was still fired on the 25th of Dec.
So I though this could be an issue with the time period configurations and added the 00:00-24:00 interval.
But what is noteworthy is that we did not have this issue last year when it was set to 00:00-00:00.

Will PM you the name of the host and service which sent the false alert.

HI,
Will PM you the name of the host and service which sent the false alert.
Can you send me the nagios.log from 12/25 as well. It gets rotated every 24 hours, so PM the logs dated from 12/25 and 12/26. They are located in the following directory. Thanks, Benajmin

Code: Select all

/usr/local/nagios/var/archives
