upgrading to 5.8 on centos6 to migrate to centos7

Hello support,
we're currently on nagiosxi 5.7.5 and in the process of migrating off of centos 6. While reading through the instructions last week one of them was to ensure the backup from our system to the new OVA system is the same nagios version. We deployed the 5.8 OVA and waited until today to do the upgrade.
I attempted to bring our version up to date to migrate off and it will not let me install nagios 5.8 due to being on centos6. Is there a way to safely upgrade to 5.8 on centos6 so we can then immediately backup and import into the 5.8 OVA? do we need the 5.7.5 OVA and then upgrade to 5.8?
how would be the best way to proceed with this upgrade?
Thanks
