Autologon for a guest account with minimal permissions

Posted: Tue Mar 09, 2021 4:32 am
Hi all,

I want to make a hostgroup overview available for internal use, so that anyone without credentials can see the status of it.
I have made a guest account which can see all hosts and services and has read-only access, enabled auto-logon and used the permalink, which I have linked to some text.
So when I click on the text it will be connecting to XI and displaying the hostgroup overview automatically.
So far, so good.

The only thing is that I don't want this guest account to change something in its settings or that they can navigate through XI using the icons (View Hostgroup Service Details and Commands).
Does someone know how to limit the guest accounts permissions to a minimum, so that this user can only see the status of hosts and services without navigating via the icons provided?

I've looked on Nagios Exchange, but I couldn't find any suitable plug-in which has this functionality

Regards,
Fred

You would need to set the user rights accordingly, see page 4 of this guide for what each allows:

Hi Sean,

Thanks for you reply!
I was aware of that document and gave the guest-user minimal permissions (can see all objects and read-only), but what I wanted to achieve is just a info page without the possibility to navigate through all objects by selecting the item (clicking on them).
In fact, when clicking on a host or service it should not react or give a message that this function is not available (only for this guest-user).
I don't know if that is possible at all, but I was curious if it can be done.

Regards,
Fred

Currently, multi-tenancy does support that functionality. The minimal level would still allow them to click on the host or service and view details such as incoming results or performance graphs. However, I could submit a feature request if you'd like.

Hi Benjamin,

I don't know if there are many requests for such a feature and how much effort it takes to display a read-only page without the possibility to navigate by clicking on objects.
I'll leave it up to you guys if it's worth while to spent time on it and I will take a look at the multi-tenancy configuration.
For now, I have enough information, Benjamin

Kind regards,
Fred
