Nagios XI 5.8 - supported databases

Hi there

We have a client running a licensed copy of XI 5.8 on RHEL 7.9. They would like to know if they can upgrade the MySQL database to a newer version to take advantage of some newer features that they believe will enhance performance.

As their partner, we promised to find out for them - so my question is:

1. Can the backend MySQL database on an XI install be upgraded and the installation will still be supported?
2. If so, is there supported database versions matrix? Can either MariaDB or MySQL be used, or just one?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Robin

We support all versions of MySQL or MariaDB. We aim to provide a "future-proof" piece of software that will run even under the latest version of those database software.

However, if you're looking for stability and compatibility with our software, it's recommended you use the version of MariaDB provided by and maintained by your Linux distro provider.

Some customers have successfully installed MariaDB 10.x from MariaDB's own repos using this guide.
That being said, there could still be unknown bugs in our software associated with running the latest database packages. If you find one, please post it in the forum, and we'll fix them as soon as we can - and may issue you a hotfix.
