impossible notifications

Contacts report receiving "impossible" alert notificatons:
the same host/service probes are OK/green in the web GUI, but users
receive alert notifications nonetheless.

Specific sample taken from configuration file:
check_command check_xi_ncpa!-t '****' -P 5693 -M 'disk/logical/C:|' -w 80 -c 90

(note token obfuscated as *****)

Example notification attached:
'PROBLEM Service Alert - bus-en-2001_Disk Usage on C _ is WARNING.eml.gz'

Note warning at 70.30% but warning threshhold is 80%. Impossible notifications
are received repeatedly, and much more often than every 60 minutes as
specified in the probe configuration. Many more examples of similar strange
behavior.

Additional info / details in attachments.

Please let me know what additional information I can provide.

Very, very strange. Any ideas or suggestions?

Rob

I am concerned that I have not received any response yet. I need to escalate this issue; what is the best way to do this?

Hi Rob,

Could you please generate another System Profile as shown below please?

In the one you attached I saw some corruption like this in the servicegroups.cfg file:

Code: Select all

define servicegroup {
servicegroup_name WSAA Databases Service
alias WSAA Databases Service
members ADMIN-XDAT3,Service status for: MSSQL_ADMIN,ADMIN-XDAT3,Service status for: MSSQL_OSFA,ADMIN-XDAT3,Service status for: MSSQL_OUA,ADMIN-XDAT3,Service status for: MSSQL_REG,ADMIN-YDAT1,Service status for: MSSQLSERVER,ADMIN-ZDAT3,Service status for: MSSQL_ADMIN,ADMIN-ZDAT3,Service status for: MSSQL_DMI,ADMIN-ZDAT3,Service status for: MSSQL_EOA,ADMIN-ZDAT3,Service status for: MSSQL_FSAP,ADMIN-ZDAT3,Service status for: MSSQL_OSFA,ADMIN-ZDAT3,Service status for: MSSQL_OUA,ADMIN-ZDAT3,Service status for: MSSQL_REG,ADMIN-ZTFS1,Service status for: MSSQL_TFS,FAA-WWW-SEDAC,Service status for: MSSQL_SQLEXPRESS,GRADDBS2,Service status for: MSSQLSERVER,GRADDBSDEV2,Service status for: MSSQLSERVER,LAW-SQUIRREL,Service status for: MSSQLSERVER,SATSVMLICENSE01,Service status for: MSSQL_MICROSOFT__WID,SWAN-ZDOC1,Service status for: MSSQL_DOCUSHARE,WSAA-MSSQL01A,Service status for: MSSQL_WSAAMSSQLINST,WSAA-MSSQL01B,Service status for: MSSQL_WSAAMSSQLINST
}
I also didn't see the service you referenced in the email (PROBLEM Service Alert - bus-en-2001_Disk Usage on C _ is WARNING)

To send us your system profile.
1. Login to the Nagios XI GUI using a web browser.
2. Click the "Admin" > "System Profile" Menu
3. Click the "Download Profile" button
4. Save the profile.zip file and share this in a private message and then reply to this post to bring it up in the queue.

Thanks

It appears that during recovery a *lot* of email stacked up and it took a few days for the queue to clear itself up; but the day after I submitted the support ticket, the issue seems to have cleared itself. What appeared to be impossible notifications were just emails from days prior finally getting sent.

I would like for someone from Nagios Sales contact me about why our support contract does not cover emergency phone support; I believe that at one time it did. I have additional questions as well, including al la carte licensing and contract support.

When someone posts a reply to my support ticket I really need to receive an email at my registered email address. This support forum seems to kick me out after a period of inactivity, and I do not have the capability of sitting in the forum for hours or days constantly refreshing hoping to get a reply.

I tried to upgrade from XI 5.5 to 5.8 this morning, and although the upgrade script says it worked, it did not. I will put in a new ticket for this.

Hey Rob,

I took a look at your account and it shows "calls exhausted". I am passing on your request/questions
to Sales, you'll be hearing from them shortly.

I will find out if email notifications are available from the forum and will email you an answer.

I am going to close this thread as the original issue is solved.

Thanks

Greg,

Thank you thank you thank you! I never would have found that option for receiving an email notification of a reply if you hadn't pointed me to it.

Thank you to for pointing out an option that might interrupt the automatic log out.

As for phone support, I look forward to hearing from Sales. I have no recollection of calling since the contract was renewed (October 2020) until the incident last month (April 2021). Nobody besides me should be calling so I'll be real curious about what is going on there.

Thank you again,
Rob

hey Rob,

Glad I could help!

Hit me up if you don't hear from Sales by the end of Thursday (27 May 2021)

Locking this.

Thanks
