SMTP mail failing to connect

Hello All,
I am trying to configure the SMTP settings under "Email Settings". When I configured it the first time, it worked fine. We decided to create a dedicated account on our email server for Nagios. I then updated the SMTP settings to reflect the appropriate information. When trying to send a test email, it is failing to connect and hangs the web ui until it times out. I have checked phpmailer.log and mail.log. Neither of those provide any useful information. The phpmailer.log just says it cannot connect. There is no indication as to why. I am able to telnet from the host to our mail server and send an email, so the configuration is correct. I also tried changing the SMTP settings back to what had worked previously and I get the same problem now with it as well. I'm thinking the configuration has been corrupted. Is there a way I can see the actual configuration?
Thanks,
-G
