Cluster live upgrade/migrate

Hi,

I got a two node Nagios log server cluster, it's on CentOS 6 and has the ancient version of 1.4.2. My task is to upgrade it to the latest version and migrate it to RHEL8. And of corse do this online.

What is the correct way to do this? Can I replace one of the nodes on a newly installed RHEL8 with the latest version? Will it work with this big of version difference? What is the oldest version supported on RHEL8, should I upgrade first to some intermediate version then migrate and finally continue the upgrade?

Please advice!

Thanks!

Hello Patalenszki,

Understand that you were given the task to upgrade your NLS environment.

We would recommend that you spin up a test environment that looks like your production on a Centos 6. Once things look good in the test environment, would suggest working on NLS upgrade to the latest version. Then go ahead and spin-up the RHEL8 with matching NLS and drop in the backup/restore.

With every purchase we offer 3 separate activations of XI licenses. One for production, one for testing, and one for high availability.

This is a good start.

Thanks,
Perry

Hi,

I will do so, thanks for the note about the licence, this way it will be definitely easier.

I wasn't sure what is the compatibility matrix of OS versions and NLS versions. But if CentOS still supports the latest NLS then it's ok!

Thanks!
