Question regarding the OVA

We have been using Nagios XI for many years, installed on a Linux VM of our own. Recently, we thought we'd give the OVA a try for the Network Analyzer. We have deployed this into our VMware vSphere environment. Seems to be running OK, but I have a few questions. Do we just treat this like any other Linux server? Log in to it, set a hostname, install VMware Tools (or open-vm-tools), and administer it like we normally would? Or should it be treated more like a virtual appliance (which is kind of what we were hoping for), where we don't really do much in the OS itself, and just use the application?

We had to log in on the console in order to configure the IP address on the system (no DHCP in our server environment), other than that we have left it alone. We don't see any other way to configure things, except via the web interface of the application, and not every option is there (for instance, if we want to enable SSL for the site, so users access it via https).

We have also deployed the Nagios Log Server using the OVA, and the same questions apply for that as well.

We tried looking at the documentation, but there isn't really anything specific for the OVA, except for deploying it using VMware Workstation 12.

Thanks in advance!

Currently our OVAs are just a minimal install of CentOS 7 with a source install of the product installed for faster deployment, they are not locked down "virtual appliances" in that regard. Just treat it like any other Linux server in your environment (yum updates/VM tools/etc) but do not install multiple products on the system to stay in a supported configuration as they have different package requirements.

You can see how to enable SSL here:
