NagiosXI Upgrade Questions

My Production NagiosXI system was originally downloaded from Nagios and is currently running Centos 6.8 and NagiosXI version 5.4.13 (long story, don't bash me). Obviously, I need to update this for a lot of reasons. My environment isn't huge (180 hosts and about 2000 services) but it's a lot more than I want to rebuild manually. I have looked through the forums and haven't really seen a good upgrade route. I would prefer to just download the OVA again and just import everything but from what I have read, I'm not sure that is possible. What is my best way to accomplish this?

My test system is running Centos 7.9 and 5.4.13 also. I had it check for updates and install the updates but is has been updating for the last 4 hours. Is this typical?

Hi,

It's pretty straightforward, but we may need to alter the upgrade path depending on the target operating system. If you're planning to use Cent 7, you can install the current version, 5.4.13, on the new server, run the backup/restore process and then upgrade XI to the latest version.

If you are planning to migrate from Cent 6 to Cent 8, let me know and I can provide the steps for you.

The current OVA uses Cent 7 as a base OS, so that's an option as well.

The KB article below has everything you need to know about migrating XI from one server to another. The backup/restore script makes this a simple procedure.
