Hi Team,

We are using a trial version of Nagios Log Server with 3 instances in a cluster and 4th is a standalone instance.
We are planning to procure license for 4 servers setup. After licensing, can we add the 4th instance to this cluster?

From a licensing perspective the answer is "yes".

From a technical perspective it depends on how things are architected now. Do you have data on the
standalone machine that isn't on the clustered environment, and are hoping to bring that data into the
cluster?

Or are you simply wanting to go from a 3 node cluster to a 4 node cluster and you don't care about
what data is on the standalone server?

The way that NLS is set up is that a server can only be added to a cluster on the initial install.

You have an existing standalone node so you will not see the option to add it to the cluster.

A workaround would be to start monitoring what is on the standalone server with the cluster,
by adding the config settings from the standalone server to the cluster. And then after 45, 90,
180 days - or whatever your data retention policy is, shutdown the standalone machine, re-install NLS
on it (wiping out the data) and have it join the cluster.

1. Can a license which is procured for 4 server instance be applied on a cluster containing 3 servers?

2. If #1 is yes, can we add a brand new server after 20-30 days of applying the license.
