Map options for large installations

I'm looking to fill a void in our org and start using the maps available in XI. However, none of them do exactly what I want. What is anyone else using for maps with a large Nagios XI install? I have 1500 hosts and it is just a mess using hypermap or network status map. I'd love it if you could select root node in the network status map and it only showed the items below it. Then I'd also need a way to specify on the URL with variables what to start with as the root node as waiting for that drop down box to fill with all my host names is too long.
I just don't know if either of those maps are feasible for what I want. My basic desire is to be able to bring up a map, drill down through the network and VM hosts(through the configured parent relationship) and find the path to get to some host. Or, pull up a specific host in the map and go up the tree to see where it is running, on what switch, what router, etc.....
I know I didn't explain this very well, but hope I got my point across....does anyone else with a large install use any of the maps in XI? Can Nagios people point me in a direction to use them properly in a large install?
