Disable Checks or Alerts During Nagios Network Outage

We ran into a problem yesterday where the switch that our Nagios server is connected to failed during an upgrade. Once network connectivity was restored, alerts were then sent out due to the network connection being down. This obviously created some confusion for our alert contacts, who's services were up and running the entire time. Is there a (easy) way to disable checks (preferred) or alerts if an issue with the network interface is detected?
Thanks in advance.

Hi shoreypu,
Sorry you had to deal with switch problems, that's never fun. Nagios XI allows you to create parent child relationships, as well as service and host dependencies for situations like this. I'll append a couple of links below to our documentation on these topics:
Knowledge Base Article on Parent/Child:
https://support.nagios.com/kb/article/p ... s-904.html
Host and Service Dependencies:
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ncies.html
Determining Status and Reachability of Network Hosts:
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ility.html
Also as you probably already know there are a set tools for scheduling downtime and mass acknowledgement under the "Incident Management" twisty in the left frame of main XI page. Those can be rather helpful when things go wrong in an unexpected way (if you can get to the system).
Hope this is useful.
Thanks and Best Regards,
Keith
