Hi there,

I'm trying to evaluate Nagios XI so I downloaded the image for VMware and converted it to a ESXi server, when there the machine launches just fine but it doesn't show up any network card attached. Checking the VM settings, there is a network card "flexible" already installed, adding a additional one doesn't make any difference, being VMXNET3 on E1000. I've also removed /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules as in a previous time I cloned a centOS VM I had problems with the network card missing as well and removing that entry and rebooting resolved the problem. In this case it has not.

Also when editing the VM I get this error from the ESXi host:

server fault 'invalidargument' has no message

I removed the machine from inventory and re added it, but didn't make any difference.

Well I resolved myself the issue.

Looks like you need to select the option "moved VM" instead of "copy" when ESXi asks for it first time you boot the VM. Doing COPY changes the MAC address of the network card, doing MOVE doesn't change it.

the MAC address is stored on the file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

edit this file and remove the MAC address entry that starts with HWADDR, take the whole line out, save the file and reboot. Next time the machine boot up the MAC address will be populated again there and it should work fine.
