Cisco SPA504G VoIP phone monitoring

Does anyone know of a plugin (or how to write one) to monitor Cisco SPA504g VoIP phones on a SOHO network? They don't have SNMP functionality, so that limits that. There's a field for a "debug server" and for a Syslog server. Has anyone had any luck monitoring these with Nagios - either only using the syslogs or perhaps xml, or perhaps something I'm not aware of? I've searched all over the internet and it seems that these phones were designed to be monitored only by specific Cisco equipment; something my predecessor in this job apparently didn't take into account. Any/all help/tips/points in the right direction are appreciated! Other than that, I've got a good overview of my network with Nagios; just need to figure out what's going on with the VoIP phones.
