WMI Changes

The word on the street is that microshaft is making some changes to WMI to address some vulnerabilities. Surprise, surprise. Will these changes only affect new server versions? Or will they roll out an update for existing versions? Ie: server 2012. Any idea when this is going to happen? We monitor 60 Windows servers 6 2008R2 and 54 2012R2 all with WMI. Do you know yet how this will impact XI?

You can now use the Windows SSH Wizard as an alternative to the deprecated WMI wizard. See https://answerhub.nagios.com/support/s/ ... I-9a5920ef

WMI isn't changing. There is a CLI utility for managing WMI that is going away but only because it's being replaced by Powershell commandlets. Wayyyyyy too much Windows stuff relies on WMI for it to be drastically changed/broke/made incompatible.

While WMI may not be changing, our WMI wizard in XI is being deprecated and in place of our new Windows SSH Wizard. I hope this clears up any confusion.

In the context of the original post, WMI support did change between then and now - namely, Microsoft removed the option to use Basic Authentication, which our old WMI configuration wizard was relying on. At the time that we were looking for a replacement, a lot of our team didn't feel good about the then-current state of Powershell on Linux, and we didn't see support for other authentication methods available on Linux, which is why we have the Windows SSH wizard for agentless monitoring now.

To be clear - WMI is not being deprecated, WMIC is.
