Two devices were set up for Nagio to login via SSH, change a setting, and log off,
and do that every few minutes.
This worked for a few weeks.
Then these 2 were turned off for several weeks, then powered up again.
Now the test is not being done.
Debug output from the devices shows that no SSH session is attempted.
Nagios "Service Status" for each shows Status UNKNOWN and Status Information is
UNKNOWN - TOO MANY PROGRAMS QUEUED FOR THIS DEVICE. ATTENTION REQUIRED.
Have restarted Nagios, to no avail.
Nagios® Core™ Version 4.4.11
Running on an Antsle virtual server box, 64-bit.
Don't know how Nagios was installed.
Don't know if Gnome is in use.
SSL is not in use.
Proxy is not in use.
Cannot find any help for this problem on the web.

Based on your description, my first thought is to check the network addresses. If your two devices get IP addresses assigned by DHCP, and if nagios is using an IP address to reach them, they could easily have different IP addresses after being turned off for two weeks.

In general, my recommendation is to log into your nagios server and try to SSH into your devices. That error message could be coming from the device itself, or it could be coming from the plugin, which may or may not be written by the community. If you know that SSH access is working generally, then I would start debugging the plugin.
