We have an HTTP check setup in NagiosXI that checks the host's website for validity. To make the check easy to setup, we utilize the "Free Variables" under the "Misc Settings" in the host. Then the service check references the host free variable. The issue is that these free variables are disappearing from the configuration which creates alarms that the check is invalid.

Any information on how these are becoming unset? Where are these configurations saved so I can troubleshoot the issue.

Are you defining them beginning with an _ ?

The free variables are written to the config files so I don't understand how the would be "disappearing"

Yup, putting the _ in front. So here's the funny thing, one time I went back to add a different website and the original one showed back up when I inserted it (may not be related). The next time it disappears I'll check the config. Currently it looks good.
