Stupid Question here

the version i am running is 2011r3.2.
With that said i am on version 3, correct?
I was looking for a book on nagios and they have them for version 2 and 3,
3 came out in 2008, correct?
I just want to make sure i am correct before i spend 50 bucks on a book.

A) No such thing a stupid question.
B) Yes, you are technically using Nagios 3, however, the actual point releases for Nagios XI do not correspond with the version of Nagios Core you are actually running. Nagios XI is a nice web frontend that grants and extends a lot of functionality to Nagios Core. Nagios Core is a open source project that has been around since 1999. Nagios Core's (which is what is running alongside Nagios XI) current latest version is Nagios Core 3.4.1, which is probably what the books are referring to. While the version of Nagios XI your are running is 2011r3.2, which is completely coincidentally in version 3 as well.
To sum it up, yes your are using Nagios 3.

While most books are more geared towards Nagios Core, the best Nagios 3 book I've used is here:
