Nagios functionality question

We have servers that at any point can be upgrade with new hardware. Can nagios or a plugin detect the change and auto add the new hardware to it's monitoring?
Or can it/plugin be configured top detect the new hardware and alert on that so that we can make the update manually?

The "automatic discovery" feature will be part of the Nagios XI 2012 Enterprise Edition. It will provide automatic detection and monitoring of new network devices and servers without manual intervention.

Hope this helps.

it does, but I was thinking along the lines of id someone adds say a new disk to an existing server will nagios or some plugin detect that new disk and begin to monitor it?
This is either now or in the new release.

Btw, i interpret your answer to mean that if a new device is added to your existing network nagios will detect it and alert you so that you can configure it? That would be soooo sweet.

Actually what you are asking will likely never exist, simply because every time someone plugged in a flash drive you would have nagios start monitoring it and then when if was ejected it would cause a CRITICAL alarm...

Nagios can detect devices on the network, but it will be up to the admin to determine what to monitor on the device, at least from an alerting stand-point.

We do have some things in the works that will be able to give a quite a bit of information about a host automatically, but this is a ways out before it will even be ready for a beta test.
