Adding services

With the default wizard for Windows Server, under processes "Explorer.exe" is capitalized. If I add the monitor like that, it fails. As I go through the monitor setup, I can change it so it's "explorer.exe" and then it works, but is there a way to get it to stick so each time through I don't have to change it.

Also is there a way to add more than 4 services in the Wizard?

I'll send you a modified version of the wizard with the explorer fix and more services. How many did you have in mind?

Hello,

I would also be VERY interested in adding more than 4 services at a time. Would it be possible to send me this change as well? A lot of our application servers are running in the neighborhood of 30 services. Adding 4 at a time through the wizard equals 5,6,7 service restarts and the config verification takes quite a while for 600+ servers and associated services ;-)

Increasing the default services to 10-15 slots would be ideal if possible.

Xi2011r3.3

Thanks,
Brian

Sorry, for the delay in my response. Unfortunately other fires have been killing me. And actually for some reason I didn't get notification that there had been updated notices since the last time I had been here (I had seen Brian M's first note). So I dug into the PHP code and figured out what I needed to do, and fixed the explorer.exe item while I was at it. You're right, it isn't too bad to adjust.

Hello again gents,

Would it be possible to post a new wizard file with the expanded service slots for XI 2012r1?

Thanks Again,
Brian

Hey Brian,

We're actually working on modifying all of our windows wizards to have a dynamic number of slots for the windows services and processes, so users will be able to add as many services as they want when they run the wizard. Once those modifications are complete we'll update the listing on exchange. In the meantime you can also grab the wizard posted above and overwrite the currently installed wizard so that you have the increased number of service slots.

You are a prince amongst men, sir. =) I thought about trying the above file but didn't know if it would be compatible - was waiting for your suggestion to do so before proceeding. Great news on the dynamic slots - Also please consider doing the same for drive letters as well (our regional software dist. servers and SQL cluster members routinely have 7-8 drives mapped). Would also be immensely helpful to have wider text boxes and drop-downs too (some of our hosts names won't even fit in the boxes, let alone the text afterwards to determine what we're actually selecting).

Best Regards,
-Brian
