How to use check_interface_status.pl

Hi all,
Anyone used this plugin before? Until recently I have just been using the built in plugins so I might be doing something silly.
I have snmp installed on the Nagios server and the device I am trying to monitor. I also have the Nagios::Plugin and Net:SNMP plugins installed.
If I run:
perl check_iface_status.pl -H localhost
I get:
IFACE_STATUS UNKNOWN - TEST MODE
The description page mentioned that the Plugin is used to check operational status on a RFC 1213 (IF-MIB)
I dont think my device has the IF-MIB. Does anyone know if it is posible to add this MIB to my device?
