Nagios Web UI is not loading after upgrading to 2024R1.1.4 version

After upgrading the Nagiosxi version from 2024R1.1.1 to 2024R1.1.4, we are not able to access the Web UI of NagiosXI and getting Permission denied error.

Not sure what is missing or what went wrong during the upgrade.
Has anyone faced this issue after the upgrade.

Which Distribution of Linux are you on? (It matters because the web server logs are in different locations depending on the distribution.)

On Debian/Ubuntu systems, have a look at the error.log file in /var/log/apache2.

On RedHat/Oracle/Centos systems, check error_log in /var/log/http.

You should be able to see errors about the permissions problems there.

We can access Web UI using IP address without https

but cannot access the Web UI using the domain name/IP address with https.

It looks like the last screenshot is showing a certificate issue when you try to access Nagios XI via https. If you weren't seeing this before your upgrade, you may want to revisit the steps to set up SSL for your Nagios XI:

Otherwise, you should be able to click on "Proceed to [ip address] (unsafe)" to reach your XI UI via SSL, despite the certificate issue. Let us know if you need further assistance with troubleshooting!

Thanks @jsimon for your response.

We have not faced this issue before upgrade. The SSL certificate has been issued only to the hostname of the server but not to the IP address of the server as per the organization policy.

After proceeding with ip address with https, I am still getting the same Forbidden error

As we are not authorized to access the application with http, we have to ensure that the application is accessible only via https.

Please do let me know if any other troubleshooting steps to fix this.

Can you let us know how this upgrade was performed, as well as how the 2024R1.1.1 installation you upgraded from was installed or upgraded to?

Are there any entries in the apache access log? This should be located in the same directory as the error_log you provided previously. In addition, it would be helpful to have access to your apache configuration:

If you have the upgrade.log file available from when you performed the upgrade to 2024R1.1.4, that would also be helpful.

I'm also curious as to what happens if you proceed to the site on the ip address only. Do you get a 403 forbidden?

The application has been upgraded to 2024R1.1.1 on RHEL7 machine in March and then the application has been migrated to RHEL 9 machine in May. In the early days of July the application has been upgraded to 2024R1.1.4

We get 403 forbidden error when we use https://ip address. If we use http://ip address, we are able to login without any issues

I think it would be worth going through the SSL/TLS setup document that has been linked in this thread already and verifying that all of the configuration changes specified there are still in place, along with any configuration changes that are specific to your implementation.
